Oundle has always welcomed new pupils at Sixth Form and the House system is well set up to support them. Each House usually takes in around two Lower Sixth pupils each year, so the process is well rehearsed. Much thought goes into where they are placed: they will normally share a room with a carefully chosen peer, and their room location is considered too (for example, being placed on a sociable corridor rather than tucked away).
Dining arrangements also play a big part. Because Houses eat in-house, Sixth Form new pupils are immediately drawn into the daily rhythm of 21 meals a week, with the Hsm and Matron ensuring they are seated with others and never left out.
Each new pupil is also assigned a mentor within the House, someone trusted to “show them the ropes” and help them integrate quickly. We also host a Sixth Form induction in June before entry, enabling all joiners to experience Oundle and spend time with their peers ahead of September.
