With regards to horse riding, equestrian is not one of the Sports options at Oundle but we have several pupils who pursue their interest in leisure and competitive riding whilst at School and in the holidays.
We offer a Riding Elective on a Thursday from 5-7pm and this is aimed at lower to intermediate riders who don't have their own horse. They ride in 2 groups of 5-6 and do a combination of basic flat work and jumping, as well as stable management.
We cater for competitive riders by allowing them to manage their time with more flexibility than normal boarders. Some keep their own horse at a centre nearby, run by ex-GB show jumper Matthew Lanni, and get coaching from him after school, on Sundays, or instead of their normal Games commitment (subject to agreement with the Director or Sport and the Hsm).
We are members of the NSEA (National School Equestrian Association) and our riders have been able to represent the School in teams or individually across the country and up to National level, but participation to these events is arranged and managed by parents and mostly outside of term time.
Show Jumping seems to be a lot more popular than dressage, though we had one pupil become champion in Elementary and Medium and won the NSEA Nations Cup in a mixed team. Equestrian Success at National Schools Championship - Oundle School
