What are the boarding options at Oundle?

With over 800 boarding pupils, boarding lies at the heart of our identity as a school. We are one of the largest boarding schools in the UK and among the few to offer a truly authentic, modern full-boarding ethos.

For senior pupils (aged 13-18), our ‘all-in or all-out’ model creates real continuity within Houses. This shared rhythm across the week and weekends fosters deep friendships and a strong sense of belonging. It also enables us to offer a breadth and depth of opportunity that simply wouldn’t be possible in a different setting.

We have eight boys’ boarding Houses and five girls’ boarding Houses for pupils aged 13 to 18, creating a community where friendships form across year groups. Older pupils look out for younger ones and take on meaningful leadership roles — helping to shape the culture of the House.

For our junior pupils (aged 11 and 12), boarding at our dedicated junior House, the Berrystead, is a gentle introduction to independence within a warm and supportive environment. We welcome over 40 boarders across these two year groups, most of whom choose full boarding. However, we understand that every child is different — so we also offer weekly and three-night boarding options at both 11+ and 12+, giving families the flexibility to choose what feels right at this stage. These options help pupils settle in confidently, enjoy the rhythm of boarding life and feel well prepared for the move into a senior House at 13+.
