All boarders joining us in Year 9 (Third Form) become part of one of our thirteen senior boarding Houses — eight for boys and five for girls. Each House has its own distinct character, but all are rooted in the same values of community, kindness and shared responsibility. Day pupils join Laxton or Sadler, our senior day Houses, and are fully integrated into the life of the School.
We offer a full-boarding model supported by a vibrant seven-day programme. Weekends at Oundle are lively and varied, with pupils enjoying a rich mix of sport, creative pursuits, socials, trips, House events and time to relax with friends. This rhythm of daily life creates strong friendships, builds independence and ensures that every pupil feels part of something bigger than themselves.
Each senior boarding House is home to around sixty pupils, with approximately twelve in each year group. The Housemaster or Housemistress lives in family accommodation within the House, creating a genuine home-from-home environment. Live-in Matrons support the wellbeing and day-to-day life of each House and are often the first port of call for pupils seeking help, reassurance or simply a chat! Tutors and tutees meet regularly both formally and informally, including lunch at least twice a week in Houses.
Communal spaces include libraries, kitchens, TV rooms and outdoor areas — providing plenty of space for both quiet time and shared fun. At the heart of every House is a community of people who live and learn together, bound by shared routines, support and House spirit.
