How does Oundle approach learning and the academic curriculum?

Oundle is often described as a highly academic school — and we are proud of that — but we are no hot house. Our pupils are intellectually curious, energetic and resourceful. They enjoy school, enjoy learning, and want to do well — but they take things in their stride and study for the love of it, not out of pressure to perform.

The breadth of subjects on offer is one of the things that excites both pupils and teachers. From the earliest stages, pupils are encouraged to explore widely, to look beyond their current interests and to engage with new ideas. We aim to expose them to as many disciplines as possible, while also offering a clear, cohesive journey right through to A level.

Our curriculum balances content, concepts and skills. As pupils move up through the School, they experience greater depth, more independence, and richer academic challenge — all of which help them develop the confidence and flexibility to succeed at university and beyond.

At its heart, our academic approach is about building a lasting foundation: a way of thinking, questioning and learning that will stay with our pupils for life.
