What is Oundle's ethos?

We are proud of our strong academic reputation. Oundelians have a natural love of learning and approach opportunity with ambition and curiosity. While we are a selective school, academic achievement is just one strand of an Oundle education.

At the heart of our ethos is a commitment to developing the character, confidence and habits of mind that will sustain pupils long beyond their school years. We want our pupils to be not only capable but grounded — thoughtful, well-rounded and fundamentally decent human beings.

Our curriculum is broad and intellectually rich and, as one of the largest boarding schools in the country, we offer exceptional co-curricular breadth — with very few limits on subject choice or opportunity. At the same time, our House structure ensures that every pupil belongs to a close-knit and caring community. It’s this combination of scale and intimacy that allows Oundelians to flourish as individuals, while feeling part of something bigger than themselves.
