What is the difference between a Scholarship and a Bursary?

At Oundle, scholarships and bursaries serve distinct purposes:

  • Scholarships are honorary awards that recognise a pupil’s exceptional potential or achievement in one or more of the following disciplines: Academic, Art, Drama, Music, Sport, or Design & Engineering. They do not carry fee remission but are supported by a dedicated programme of enrichment and guidance to help scholars develop their talents. Families who need financial assistance may apply for means-tested bursarial support, which can be awarded alongside a scholarship. Find out more about scholarships here.

  • Bursaries are means-tested financial awards for families who would not otherwise be able to afford an Oundle education. They may cover from a 10% contribution to 100%+ of fees, depending on need. Bursaries are available with or without a scholarship, and aim to ensure that talented and deserving children can access all that Oundle offers. Find out more about fees and bursaries here.
